About the Role:


Database Monitoring/Operations Engineer will be member of IT Global Operations Center (GOC) team reporting to Manager- Global Operations Center. GOC is a team within McAfee’s Global IT Operations and is responsible for ensuring committed business services availability and performance through effective Monitoring, Event Management, Incident Management, and Performance Management 24/7/365.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accountability for an issue until service restored using ITIL best practice of Event, Incident & Problem management
- Work with engineers and project leads to implement new systems, policies, standards and practices.
- Improve the future resolution of issues by writing Knowledge Articles and training colleagues
- Logically work through problems to determine their cause and how they can be resolved
- Give an accurate daily handover of all ongoing and major occurrences in your shift to your colleagues in both in Bangalore India and Plano Tx.
- Manage the day to day monitoring configuration for application using HP / Tivoli / BMC monitoring and management tool.
- Reporting – Generate various technical and management reports using reporting capabilities of monitoring tools.
- Be a process and technical leader on Major Incident, Sev 1, and business impacting events and incident technical bridges.
- Provide technical support for customer issues relating to database in Production, QA & Development environment (Oracle 11g, RAC, SQL 2008/2012)
- Troubleshooting and ad-hoc data modifications including health check of backup, status of stored procedure, schedule jobs
- Monitor, maintain and remediate database services at enterprise level using ITIL based Event, Incident & Problem Management best practice
- Reporting – Generate various technical and management reports using reporting capabilities of monitoring tools.
- Continuous interaction with IT Service desk and technical Management teams during major incidents

Qualifications

Required Experience/Skills & Education:

- 6 – 9 years of overall IT experience, specifically with RDBMS management and monitoring in large NOC/SOC environment
- Must have 3 – 5 years’ experience working specifically in an Level 1 or Level 2 capacity
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Equivalent
- Strong technical knowledge of Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL
- Experience in monitoring and troubleshooting complex database environments at enterprise level using OA&M tool set from either HP or BMC.
- Excellent ability to quickly distinguish between database and application or infrastructure support
- Demonstrated ability to define and follow best practices and business processes
- Exceptional customer-service orientation. Work well in diverse multicultural environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Experience in scripting, PL/SQL, Stored Procedure to drive automation in conjunction with HP / BMC monitoring tool
- Strong knowledge of ITIL processes, especially event management, incident management. ITIL v3 Foundation certification would be plus.
- Understanding of Virtualization (VM) based technology
- Windows 2003/2008/2008 R2 Server support and troubleshooting or administrative and troubleshooting knowledge of Red Hat Linux. DBA Certification will be PLUS
- Experience in Scripting in UNIX and Windows to drive automation in monitoring and management
- Strong conceptual knowledge of each tier of applications – Application, Middleware, Database.
- Experience crossing boundaries in application development, support, and all aspects of infrastructure to improve operations and MTTR of incidents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, tasks prioritization, work independently with minimal supervision in a 7x24 environment
- Proven track record showing skills of Operations, organizational, Communication, Business Acumen, understanding perspective, Awareness, Creativity, Initiative, Energy, Focus, Pride, and Commitment / Ownership
